The Big Game Draw

Me and my dad have been putting in for hunting permits every year for deer since it has been made a requirement a few years back. And for the last few years we have been able to buy the permits over the counter and we would just endup going to the Northeast region that basically covers the Northeastern corner of Utah and Little bit south. And we have done pretty good out there. The way they usually do it is they ask what hunts you want and they let you select by hunt number and then you have to put them on the applications according to which one will be your number once choice and then on and on. Last year we put on the application that our first choice was the southern region and then our second choice was the central region that bascially covered Utah County and a little bit of Juab County. and then our third and final choice was the Northeastern region. Let me correct myself, Last year we did not draw out at all and my dad was the only one that bought a tag and went bow hunting. So two years ago we did those choices and the skipped one and two and gave us three. So this year our strategy was that we would only put two choices down and see what would happen. Choices were in order: The Southern Region, and then the Central region. and the draw date was just yesterday. So in anticipation I checked my email and there was the news from the DWR and it stated that we drew the Southern region tag. That has been something me and my dad both have been waiting to happen for sometime now and we are both very excited and can not wait for October to come by so we can get the big hunt started.

NFL Draft

This blog today is about the 2008 NFL Draft that we just had on Friday the 25th of April. Usually what happens at these things are the first 32 players picked are guarnteed a contract for well over a million dollars. This year the first round was a little different there was only 31 picks due to what happened with the Patriots in the "spygate" scandal that is another story for another time. They had to basically give up their first round pick this year for their actions. There are usually 6 people that are invited to attend live at the draft.

So now it was time for the draft and with number one pick the Miami Dolphins selected Jake Long an offensive tackle from the university of Michigan, not a bad choice for a team that is in it's rebuilding period and has an upcoming young guy in QB John Beck. Next was the number two pick and it belonged to the St. Louis Rams and they selected Defensive End Chris Long out of the university of Virgina (no relation to Jake) he is the son of hall of fame DE Howie Long of the raiders. Another good choice for a team that struggled putting pressure on the QB. And with the number three pick the Atlanta Falcons selected Matt Ryan QB from Boston College, with this pick the Falcons were looking for their franchise quarter back and I think that they found one with this pick. The numer four pick belonged to the Oakland Raiders and with that selection they picked RB Darren McFadden from the university of Arkansas, McFadden brings power and speed to an up and coming young offense that might suprise a few teams. And with the number five pick in this years draft the Kansas City Chiefs selected DT Glen Dorsey from LSU, I believe he was the best player on the board and when he fell to the Chiefs they were very excited and knew that he could come in right away and help that young stacked defense with the run defense to plug up some holes. With the number six pick in the draft the New York Jets selected DE Vernon Gholston from Thee Ohio State Buckeyes, this guy can go from DE and move to OLB quick he has the size and speed to do so and that will help them out alot. With the number seven pick in this years draft the New Orleans Saints selected DT Sedrick Ellis from USC, this is a pick that was needed since they struggled in the run defense last year this guy can come in right away and help them out. with the number eight pick in the draft the Jacksonville Jaguars moved up in the draft to fill a need at Defensive End and selected Derrick Harvey from Florida, last year that had some injuries at this position and needed to add some depth and with this guy they will get an immediate impact player. With the number nine pick in this years draft the Cincinnati Bengals selected LB Keith Rivers from USC, They brought him in to fill a desparate need at LB since the retirement of David Pollack, and the absence of Odell Thurman, this guy can come in and help this struggling defense. And with the 10th Pick the New England Patriots selected LB Jerod Mayo from the U of Tennesse, remember when I stated earlier that the team that had to forfit their first round pick and it was the Patriots, well they got this pick from a trade with the 49ers. These guys went 16-0 in the regular season they were just looking for some youth in their LB Corps.

That was a breakdown of the first ten picks of this years draft. The next pick that I want to discuss with you all is the first round pick for my Titans. The need for them was to get a weapon for my boy Vince Young, you know like a deep threat kind of WR, and at the time the Titans were ready to make their selections no WR's were taken yet and their was some good ones left. For instance Devin Thomas from Michigan State, and Vince's college teammate Limas Sweed. The the table was set for the Titans and when the 24th pick came they announce "With the 24th pick in this years draft the Tennesse Titans Select.....RB Chris Johnson from East Carolina" WHAT? a running back are you kidding me, that is one position we do not need that is for sure we are already set at that position. Now in order for VY (Vince Young) to succeed as a QB you have to surround him with some weapons that he can throw to and honestly a running back in the first round is definately not doing that. That was a big mistake on their part and honestly what were they thinking.

Well that is it for now I hope you enjoyed the breifing of this years NFL Draft I hope that you all have learned alot. Have a good evening.

Where do I start...

So this will be my last blog for about a week. I am going up to my parents house up in wayne county to help my dad hang some sheetrock in a new house that is being built up there, he has a crew of about 3 guys that will be doing the house it is a pretty nice house. The best part of working up there is if we get off early enough we could go fishing, and will be able to spot deer. The deer are everywhere up there the house that we will be working on looks over a hay field and at night the field is covered with deer it is awesome. The only bad part about going up there is I will be without my wife for a week and I will miss her sooo much. But I will be able to earn some extra money that will help us out in paying some bills. For those who don't know the situation I got my CDL about a week or two ago and had a job lined up with Swift transportation and I showed up to their orientation and one of the physical requirements was that I had to stand on one leg for 10 seconds and then switch to the other, well I have bi-lateral club feet and my ankles have always been weak and I have never been able to stand on one leg since I could remember so when I attempted to do that I struggled and had to talk to their physical therapist and see what I could do about it, they ended up sending me home and looking for another job, So at this point I am not doing to good I am very stressed and depressed and worried about the money situation at the time I went home got online and began my job search I found another company that at first said that they do not reguire that test and that I could start on monday. So through out the week I continued to look for work and do whatever that I could in order to bring home some type of money to help my wife out in paying bills. A couple of days later Me and my wife got in a big argument she thought I was sitting around not doing anything not looking for a job not trying hard enough but I was doing everything that I could do to better the situation. Still to this day she I think that she thinks that I am not trying hard enough and it takes alot in me to not snap and to keep my cool, because there was a time that she lost her job or quit and I was worried and all that but I have never jumped on her back about it. Sorry about that I had to vent a little bit .

So showed up to CR England this past monday and was expecting to go through the motions of the orentation and then get in the truck and leave. But then they through it in at the orientation they do require that test that I am not able to take and asked if there was anything that I could do to avoid taking it I even took my shoes and socks off to show them my scars on my feet and they said that unfortunately it is a requirment and there is nothing that they could do. So again i got sent home, when I left I made a couple of calls one to my wife of course and the other was to convergys where I know that I had a pretty good chance of getting on there and went through the intital interview process and had an interview/test scheduled for this last Wednesday. Well I aced the interview and test and will begin work on April 28 I will be working as a customer care specialist for Directv and it should be fun. In the mean time I hope that I can work on getting some endorsments for my CDL and can still look and apply for driving jobs and eventually do what I have always wanted to do and that is to drive one of those big rigs. That is it for now Like I said earlier I won't be back until the 27th so Enjoy and I will see you around.

Finally the truck works...

So my day started out when I took my wife to work this morning, and when I got home I began my job search for that driving job that I am longing for. I had a few applications that I submitted for a couple of transportation companies. And then my parents(from Lyman, Utah) came over my dad had an appoinment at my uncle steve's work to get his dentures fixed, he dropped my mom and my sister off at the house and we just chatted and watched TV. When my dad came back my mom and sister went to my sisters Dr. appointment and me and my dad went down to the truck and began a long and lengthy process trying to get the beast to run. We got under the truck where the fuel tank was laying on the ground and got the new fuel pump ready to install and then proceeded to put the fuel pump in the gas tank get all the hoses ready for hook up and we lifted the tank up and secured it into place and went down to checker auto to by some fuel system cleaner and some clamps for the hoses. we jumped started the truck and I finally heard the roar of that engine that I have not heard in over 6 months. Finally the truck works. and that pretty sums up my day, not to exciting but very eventful and somewhat fun. Well that is it for now I hope you keep reading my blogs have a good day.
